Do you need a visa for Morocco?

For most short tourist trips, no. Citizens of the United States, United Kingdom, all EU/Schengen countries, Canada and Australia can enter Morocco visa-free and stay up to 90 days. You don't apply for anything in advance - you simply arrive with a valid passport and receive an entry stamp at the border.

There is no tourist e-visa or arrival fee for these nationalities. Some other passports do require an e-visa or consular visa, so if you hold a passport not listed below, check Morocco's official e-visa portal before booking.

Visa rules by nationality (tourism)

PassportVisa needed?Max stay
United States 🇺🇸No90 days
United Kingdom 🇬🇧No90 days
EU / Schengen 🇪🇺No90 days
Canada 🇨🇦No90 days
Australia 🇦🇺No90 days

The 90 days is the standard tourist allowance for all five. It is not per-entry resettable by a quick border hop in every case - treat it as 90 days of actual presence and plan extensions properly if you want longer.

Passport validity & entry rules

  • Passport validity: officially valid for the duration of your stay. Many airlines and officers expect 3-6 months of validity beyond arrival - renew early to avoid being denied boarding.
  • Blank pages: have at least one or two free pages for the entry and exit stamps.
  • Entry stamp: you'll get a stamp (and sometimes a small entry slip) on arrival. Keep it - you may be asked for it on departure.
  • Proof of onward travel: rarely checked for these nationalities, but a return or onward ticket is worth having ready.
  • Accommodation & funds: occasionally asked at the border - a hotel/riad booking and a working card cover this.
What you'll need on arrival

Before you clear the airport you'll want connectivity and cash. Sort a SIM or eSIM and your first ATM withdrawal in the arrivals hall - these are the two things that make the first hour smooth.

Staying longer than 90 days

If you want to stay beyond 90 days you have two routes:

  • Extension: apply at a local police station (Préfecture de Police) before your 90 days run out. Bring your passport, proof of accommodation, and proof of funds. Approval is at the authorities' discretion.
  • Exit and re-enter: some travelers leave (e.g. to Spain or the Canary Islands) and return for a fresh stamp. This is not guaranteed and can draw scrutiny if done repeatedly.

Overstaying without an extension can mean questioning, a fine, or delays at departure, so handle it before the deadline rather than at the airport.
